The color of Halloween. The color of excess.

You may have noticed that restaurants and retail outlets use orange in surroundings and especially at point of sale locations. The reason is orange is the color of excess. Studies have shown that when people are surrounded by warm colors in the orange hues eat more and spend more. The reason is unknown but may be caused by the warm, secure feeling orange causes.

Because orange is a warm secondary color, it promotes a happy, youthful feeling. As we learned from the age of color, orange fits into the secondary age level or teen to early 20′s age set. Use orange when trying to appeal to this target market.

Combined, orange takes on other qualities.

Orange and Blue:
Fun yet professional. Wants to be taken seriously but not too seriously. These colors dominated in the early millennium.

Orange and Green:
Modern and Natural. Keeps up with the modern world but hasn’t forgotten the roots. In touch with nature and working in the city.

Orange and Brown:
Fun and down to earth.

Orange and Black:
My favorite holiday, Halloween!
